We actively participate in development and support of advanced educational policies, the reform of the New Ukrainian School; we promote the status of educators and the development of new professional standards. We have signed cooperation memoranda with The Ministry of Education and Science, the Ukrainian Institute for Education Development, the State Service for Education Quality and its territorial departments, the Office of the Education Ombudsman, the Institute for Education Content Modernization, and other agencies.
The concept of the New Ukrainian School accumulated modern education ideas and approaches. In September 2017, a new law “On Education” was passed. Since September 2018, primary students across Ukraine have been joining the school system following new approaches.
The EdCamp Ukraine team was actively involved in drafting the concept and standards of NUS, as well as the new professional standards for teachers, thanks to cooperation of the Ministry of Education with its advisers, Oleksandr Elkin and Olena Masalitina (2016–2020).
NUS is a profound reform of the school system from 1st through 12th grades.
Being child-centered
In 2018, we conducted research together with the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine titled “Teach and Learn: Professional Development of Ukrainian Teachers”, having polled 8,427 educators from across Ukraine about their jobs, professional development, needs, dreams, and plans.
WHAT’S IN THERE? LEARN MOREThe research findings and “The Declaration of Efficient Professional Development in Pedagogy” signed by leading educational NGOs and other agencies from the sector fueled institutional changes in educators’ professional development.
The Ministry of Education and Science with expert participation of EdCamp Ukraine drafted clear guidelines for school that illustrate how teachers could use new opportunities. To institutionalize this process and make it sustainable, the Ministry created a designated workgroup on teacher professional development that has been patronizing the implementation and development of the changes (under Decree of the Education Ministry No. 223 dated Feb. 17, 2020), whose members are mostly educators from our community.
In November 2021, the platform for online learning Prometheus launched the course titled Professional Development of Teachers: New Challenges and Opportunities, in which we discuss all relevant documents and unclear details, explain everything with examples, and offer recommendations for all parties.
TAKE THE COURSEThe course is offered on the Prometheus platform
The platform got its initial legal foundation after the Law of Ukraine “On Education” (Articles 54, 59) and the Law of Ukraine “On Complete General Secondary Education” (Articles 37, 38, 40, 51, 53, 54, 55, 58, 59, 65) were passed. In fact, EdWay is based on a number of legal documents, in particular the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers No. 800 “Some issues of the professional development of pedagogical and research-pedagogical staff“.
Now teachers choose where, when, how and with whom they improve their professional skills.

In 2017, we initiated a research project titled “Kids and Docs” to find out how much paperwork must be filed by teachers and school administrators, as well as to find ways to reduce it. Now, as instructed by the Education Ministry, workplans and lesson plans are no longer obligatory, and course schedules can now be drafted in an arbitrary form. Obsolete requirements for filing documents have also been cancelled by the new regulation. Another significant outcome of the Kids and Docs research was abolishing the obsolete practice of keeping track of children within districts. Starting with mid-2021, the Ministry of Digital Transformation has been taking into account the data and recommendations from this report in developing the digitalization of school documents.

LEARN MORE AND DOWNLOAD GUIDEEdCamp Ukraine’s team has been developing and promoting anticorruption tools for Ukrainian schools in the form of games, quests, themed lessons, and scenarios. Through our integrity ambassadors and the training team for anticorruption in education, we teach others how to use these tools.
Educators learn how to talk with students about corruption prevention in an interesting and informal manner, and practical implementation of these tools in schools has shown:
increase in the number of students who believe corruption is a negative factor
increase in the number of students who believe there is no excuse for corruption
Students have started recognizing corruption in daily practices, including those in school.
FIGHT CORRUPTIONThe publication explains in lay terms what is corruption in school life and how to spot it.
DOWNLOADIt is about the pedagogy of partnership and integrity in Ukrainian educational institutions and their practical implementation by six school teams.
Wow-site 30ua was created by a group of Ukrainian creative companies.
Then EdCamp Ukraine and its creative partners created a lesson construction set to help educators hold the 30th first lesson in independent country in Ukrainian schools to strengthen children’s and adolescents’ pride in their country.
Not only did our team wish to tell the world about the achievements of Ukrainian athletes, artists, designers; to draw attention to the places worth visiting with your family, but also to allow students to call things by their names – Ukraine is currently at war, defending its borders.
Educators also have an opportunity to share ideas on improving the content with site developers.
This handbook is a universal guide to the world of charity. It leads through all stages of understanding and becoming aware of good deeds. The idea that goes through and permeates each page: “The main thing is for you to feel happy when you help, because charity means exchanging good!”
It is recommended for reading to all participants of the educational process, because the guide contains not only useful ideas and tips, but also strategies for forming a culture of charity in education.
We believe that if we do good deeds by making baby steps, focusing on specific objects, and dividing them in parts, but also have a systems thinking in this issue, we will be able to raise generations of children who will perceive helping as breathing, and will see charity and good deeds as a common thing that brings pleasure.
