We are a movement of responsible teachers who are always happy to help responsible state officials and agencies

We are strengthening teachers’ voices.

We cooperate with the state at all levels.

We actively participate in the development and support of advanced educational policies, the New Ukrainian School reform; we promote the status of educators and the development of new professional standards. We have signed cooperation memoranda with The Ministry of Education and Science, the Ukrainian Institute for Education Development, the State Service of Education Quality and its territorial departments, the Office of the Education Ombudsman, the Institute of Education Content Modernization, and other agencies.

New Ukrainian School

The concept of the New Ukrainian School (NUS) accumulated modern education ideas and approaches. In September 2017, a new law “On Education” was passed. Since September 2018, primary students across Ukraine have been joining the school system following new approaches.

The EdCamp Ukraine team was actively involved in drafting the concept and standards of NUS, as well as the new professional standards for teachers, thanks to cooperation of the Ministry of Education with its advisers, Oleksandr Elkin and Olena Masalitina (2016–2020).

EdWay National Program – My Education Companion

EdWay is a national platform of opportunities for teachers’ professional development.

Purpose of the Platform:

Digital support for all parties involved in teachers’ professional development:

searching for and selecting opportunities,
decision making and planning,
communication and feedback,
verification and quality assurance.

Building up collaborative and competitive environment for developing the market of professional development opportunities based on:

equality and mutual respect,
transparency,
accountability,
compliance with the state educational policy.

Legal framework

The platform got its initial legal foundation after the Law of Ukraine “On Education” (Articles 54, 59) and the Law of Ukraine “On Complete General Secondary Education” (Articles 37, 38, 40, 51, 53, 54, 55, 58, 59, 65) were passed. In fact, EdWay is based on a number of legal documents, in particular the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers No. 800 “Some issues of the professional development of pedagogical and research-pedagogical staff“.

Five innovative initiatives in professional development

Freedom of choice

Now teachers choose where, when, how and with whom they improve their professional skills.

"Money follows the teacher" principle

At least 150 hours of professional development (for the 5-year period) is reimbursed by state and local budgets in the amount of not less than 2% of education subvention.

Lifelong learning

Annual professional development is mandatory.

Diversity

Fields, types and forms of professional development are broadened up.

Demonopolization

In addition to educational institutions (post-diploma studies institutes, universities) you can now go through professional development programs offered by other providers (subjects) of professional development without their mandatory licensing / program accreditation.

EdCamp Ukraine’s team has been developing and promoting anticorruption tools for Ukrainian schools in the form of games, quests, themed lessons, and scenarios. Through our integrity ambassadors and the training team for anticorruption in education, we teach others how to use these tools.

Outcomes of Talks with Children about Corruption

Educators learn how to talk with students about corruption prevention in an interesting and informal manner, and the practical implementation of these tools in schools has shown:

10 %

increase in the number of students who believe corruption is a negative factor.

9 %

increase in the number of students who believe there is no excuse for corruption.

Students have started recognizing corruption in daily practices, including those in school.

ENT

ENT is Education NGOs Together alliance of organizations from the education sector who signed the Memorandum on Cooperation of Civil Society Organizations in Support for Education Reform. During the Fifth National EdCamp Ukraine (un)Conference for Teachers 2019, the Memorandum was signed by eight NGOs operating in teachers’ professional development sector.

Some key ideas all members of the alliance agreed on:

NUS reform must continue whatever the political scene.

Reform must be real, not declarative.

Reform must be informed by progressive and humanistic values.

Levels of violence and stress in education must be reduced
