About EdCamp Ukraine NGO

Date of establishment and areas of activity

The EdCamp Ukraine NGO was registered on December 29, 2015, following the First National (Un)conference for school educators.

From the very beginning all our activities have been aimed at five large-scale goals:

Professional development of educators
Influencing changes in education policy
Conducting research in education
Introducing the world’s best educational practices
Implementing crisis-response initiatives during the war

Today, the EdCamp Ukraine community includes more than 55,000 educators. Most of them work in schools, but many also work in preschools, out-of-school education, higher education, and other organizations. Every second school in Ukraine has a teacher who is part of our community, with an average of three community members per school.

Why it works

Our work is based on a combination of three components:

A motivated professional community.
Evidence-based approaches and team expertise.
Strong partnerships with government institutions, UN agencies, international organizations, national foundations, civil society, businesses, and the media.

This enables us not only to launch initiatives, but also to scale them and ensure their sustainability.

We act on three levels like ripples in water

The first level is personal, or Self

We give educators opportunities to grow professionally.
The second level is professional, or School and Community

We encourage educators to apply what they have learned in their educational institutions.
The third level — systemic, or Ukraine and the World

We provide our community with tools for collaboration and communication.

Each ripple spreads outward: the broader the societal level, the greater the impact.

Our appoach

The ideas and innovations shared by members of the movement are numerous and diverse. Yet they all fall within the framework of humanistic education — an approach based on child-centeredness, where the child, their talents and abilities take center stage, while the teacher, in partnership with the child and their parents, becomes a guide on the learning journey. This approach requires new methods: democratic, transparent, and flexible.

EdCamp Ukraine, as an organization that helps educators learn, follows the same approach, placing educators, their talents and abilities at the center. All our projects and events are based on the belief that teachers understand the need for their own professional development and are able to make independent decisions and be creative and responsible. In other words, they can move from one peak to another, becoming a better version of themselves while remaining their best selves at every stage of the journey.

The most important foundation, the cornerstone, and at the same time the goal of our work is

educators, their development, confidence, and happiness.

Our partners

Recognizing the effectiveness of horizontal relationships and partnerships, we are happy to take part in educational initiatives together with other organizations that share our principles and goals, and we invite them to participate in our projects. We cooperate with government and non-governmental institutions, build partnerships with businesses, including those abroad, and actively engage volunteers.
