About the Program

In 2025, EdCamp Ukraine began implementing the educational program Experience AI in Ukraine. The program was developed in collaboration between the Raspberry Pi Foundation and Google DeepMind. Its goal is to help teachers and students understand the principles of artificial intelligence and machine learning, and to explore their impact on society. To achieve this, the program offers accessible materials, ready-to-use lessons, and practical tasks that make it easier to integrate AI topics into the educational process.

Not only does Experience AI teach technical concepts, but it also fosters the ability to see the bigger picture: to recognize both the benefits and challenges of artificial intelligence, to understand its influence on future professions, and to reflect on how it shapes human interaction in society.

The educational program “Experience AI. Grades 5–9” for secondary schools, developed outside the framework of the model curriculum, has been granted the approval mark “Recommended for use in the educational process” (Minutes No. 8 of the meeting of the Expert Committee on Informatics Education, dated November 3, 2025).

Highlights of the program:

  • Designed to be accessible to all, regardless of prior experience;
  • Grounded in scientific research
  • Attentive to social and ethical dimensions
  • Offering hands-on experience with machine learning models

Official program website

Here you’ll find a collection of resources for implementing the Experience AI educational program – including lesson plans, presentations, videos, simulations, handouts, practical projects, and exercises. These materials are designed to help you introduce students aged 11–14 to artificial intelligence and to the principles of using it safely.

Who is the program best suited for?

The Experience AI program is best suited for children aged 11 to 14. This age range was chosen because students are already able to work with abstract concepts (such as data, algorithms, and models), but do not yet require in-depth technical or programming knowledge.

The materials are designed so that learners can grasp the topics intuitively and through practical tasks, while teachers – even without specialized training in computer science or AI – can confidently conduct the lessons. In addition, the program fosters the development of critical thinking, digital literacy, and the responsible use of technology in today’s society.

Educator Guide: Foundation of AI

It has been translated into many languages and is now available in Ukrainian. The guide covers six sequential lessons that introduce students to the key concepts of artificial intelligence. It explains what data is and which algorithms process it, how machine learning models are created, and why examples are important. Special attention is given to issues of bias and fairness, as well as to ethical aspects and responsible attitudes toward technology. Students also learn about modern applications of AI in various areas of life and reflect on how these technologies may change society in the future.

All the tasks in the guide are designed to be carried out without special technical training or expensive equipment. The materials help teachers deliver engaging lessons and facilitate discussions, while students can explore artificial intelligence through practical examples and develop critical thinking skills.

Educator Guide: AI Safety

This guide helps students aged 11–14 understand key safety issues related to artificial intelligence: data privacy, media literacy in the era of generative AI, and the responsible use of tools.

The materials include three ready-to-use lessons – “Your Data and AI,” “Media Literacy in the Age of AI,” and “Using AI Tools Responsibly.” Each lesson contains a short video with a key message, discussion topics, and offline activities that encourage students to think critically and responsibly. The guide is designed so that even teachers without technical training can use it, and the tasks can be carried out in classrooms, at class meetings, in youth clubs, or at home.

On the Experience AI website, you’ll find two new lessons in the “Foundations of AI” block. The first, “Large Language Models (LLM),” looks at how modern chatbots function and the difficulties of trusting their results. The second, “Ecosystems and AI – Biology,” focuses on the role of technology in protecting biodiversity. Together, these materials expand the Experience AI curriculum and provide a comprehensive foundation for discussing safety, ethics, and the practical applications of artificial intelligence with students. These resources have been translated into Ukrainian and are freely available after registration on the website.

In addition, the website offers a three-week online course, “Understanding AI for Educators” (in Ukrainian), which helps educators explore types of AI tools, their impact on education and the labor market, as well as related ethical issues. There is also the “Experience AI Challenge” section that guides students step by step to create their own application based on a machine learning model (currently available in English), and the “Global impact through partnerships” section (also in English), which highlights how the program collaborates with educational organizations worldwide to translate and adapt resources, making them accessible for teachers and students in different countries.

Trainer Cohort

The first trainer cohort was made up of 20 educators from across all regions of the country. They completed a certified 120-hour training program (equivalent to 4 ECTS credits) led by the project team and developers from the Raspberry Pi Foundation. The program included an in-depth study of the curriculum, piloting of teaching methods, hands-on practice, and trainer preparation to support the rollout of Experience AI in local communities and at the national level.

Our Goal

An important part of the trainer cohort’s work is building a community of practice where educators can support one another and exchange teaching experiences. The program also helps young people develop critical thinking, recognize the limits of technology, and reflect on its ethical challenges.
